In 2004, we took our first and only cruise so far to Alaska. As we sailed through a fog with fog horn blowing every two minutes, the ship veered to port, sending a service cart careening across the deck. The cause of this abrupt move was the glacial calf below passing close to our starboard.

If you don't know what I'm talking about then here it is: I don't know how to make a behind the cut link so anyone who is computer literate please help, I know computer code but I'm not that good so please explain what it is I have to do. Thank you to the two people who tried to help me.

Critique welcome, but I'm still learning and thus still attached to the sugar coating.

I have a Sony Alpha 200. It's my first DSLR and I've had it a year now. I have a standard "came with the camera" lens.
I've had film SLR's for a few years before that and one of my first cameras was a Zenit with a 50mm lens. I cheated and used to put it on my Pentax film SLR. It took beautiful photos with a lovely DoF.

Now I knew I wouldn't be able to use Film SLR lenses with a Digital SLR. The main reason being the Zenit and Pentax had Pentax-K mounts and the lenses aren't interchangable with the Sony.
I would love to get a lens much like the 50mm for the Sony (that would be an 80mm right?). I'm looking for good value decent glass that isn't going to break the bank. However through some research I have found that I'm going to be looking at €500+ for something for my Sony. This makes me sad as I would really love to get a decent flash too.
I'm not making a profit with my photography at the moment (as I still have a lot to learn so I'm not going to attempt to sell my work not that I would know how, anyway!). When I am I won't think twice about spending a lot of money on equipment. Right now I just would like the opportunity to use the variety of lenses I had for my film SLRs.
The questions are as follows:
For the Sony what lenses should I look out for (the best all rounders with quality, features and price)? For the Sony what entry level flashes should I look for (again best all rounders with quality, features and price)? What are people's opinions on lens mounting/flash mounting converters? I've got a friend who can get me Canon camera equipment at trade prices but I would need conversion equipment on the flash mount and lens mount. What sort of image quality loss would I see? The Canon equipment is at least €200 cheaper than the Sony stuff. If the mounting is a viable option I may well go with it.
Thanks for your help everyone, I don't post my work here often but you always help me out when I have a question (or several!).
